Aux. Steam Clipper  “Royal Charter”  1856 – 1859

In 2009 on the 150th anniversary of the tragedy, the following events were held:

End of May to 30th June By arrangement of the ‘Moelfre Partnership’ two bronze plaques by the sculptor Sam Holland will be unveiled.
Sam Holland created the stature of Dic Evans ‘Lifeboat VC’
18th July – 30th November Pat West  “Royal Charter” exhibition of artefacts  ‘Oriel Môn’ Llangefni.
30th July 7 p.m. “Royal Charter” illustrated talk Moelfre Community Church Hall
31st July  Unveiling of the slate plaque commemorating the location of The Porth Eleth Well, near the wreck site.  
13th August
7 p.m.
“Royal Charter” illustrated talk Moelfre Community Church Hall 
21st/22/23rd  August Floral Presentation in St. Gallgo’s Church, Llanallgo, with a “Royal Charter” theme (This will mark the ship leaving Australia 26 Aug. 1859) . We very much appreciate the donations being sent to us to help with the purchase of flowers.
23rd August
10.30 a.m
St. Gallgo’s Church.  Morning prayer led by the Revd. Canon Dr. Graham Loveluck. The service will include the sermon preached by Revd. Stephen Roose Hughes in November 1859.
25th August
2 p.m.
Accompanied walk in the churchyard at St. Gallgo’s pointing out graves associated with the shipwreck.
21st September Launch of Henry Priestman “Royal Charter” music CD / maritime themed songs.
10th October The Aled Eames Memorial Lecture in Carmel Chapel “Smugglers of Anglesey”
16th October Dramatic Performance by the “Lost Canons” in the Moelfre Community Church Hall
25th October
1p.m.
Service at St. Gallgo’s Church, Llanallgo led by Bishop Andrew, Bishop of Bangor.
2p.m. The Royal Marines band on the Green, Moelfre
26th October
2 p.m.
Guided walk of St. Gallgo’s church yard visiting the “Royal Charter” Graves
7 p.m. St. Gallgo’s church. Monologue based on “Royal Charter” Sermon (given by the Revd. Stephen Roose Hughes in 1859)
